Charlotte came home from school last week with some really exciting news. She was one of two Kindergarteners chosen to read at an upcoming school assembly. I was so excited for her! When we got home, I opened her folder to look over what she was supposed to read so we could start practicing. I was shocked at what she was asked to read! Charlotte has just started reading within the last year...look at the 4 passages she had to read in front of the ENTIRE school! (K-8)
1. A friend is trustworthy, you can count on a friend.
Proverbs 8:6; 11:13
Listen, for I have trustworthy things to say; I open my lips to speak what is right. A gossip betrays a confidence, but a trustworthy person keeps a secret.
2. A friend is patient. A friend accepts us as we are yet helps us to be what we should.
Proverbs 19:11
Proverbs 19:11
A person's wisdom yields patience; it is to one's glory to overlook an offense.
3. A friend is kind. Love and kindness are never wasted. They always make a difference.
Galatians 5:22
But the fruit of the Spirit is love, joy, peace, forbearance, kindness, goodness and faithfulness.
4. In Kindergarten, SJA students learn the #1 rule to never hurt anybody on the inside or the outside.
Matthew 22:37-40
Thou shalt love the Lord thy God with all thy heart, and with all thy soul, and with all thy mind. This is the first and great commandment. And the second is like unto it. Thou shalt love thy neighbor as thyself. On these two commandments hang all the law and the prophets.
Hello! There are some BIG words in there!!! Forbearance? Commandment? Trustworthy!!! I suddenly became so nervous for her!!!! We practiced for a week. Yesterday was the assembly. I really wanted to go and watch her, but I was afraid that if she saw me, she would get nervous. (Parents aren't invited anyway...but her teacher said I could sneak in if I really wanted). Charlotte tends to get emotional when I go to her school to volunteer. She gets really clingy and sad. So, I thought it would be best if I wasn't there. She was a little nervous in the morning when I dropped her off...she was starting to freak herself out. She was getting teary and asked me to call her in sick. Ugh, I was so nervous for her. I promised her that, if she did well, she could get Dairy Queen after school and she could pick out what we had for dinner that night. I told her that her teacher would have never chosen her to do this if she didn't think she was capable of doing it! I was nervous all day for her!!! Kevin picked Charlotte up from school...and I was waiting at home DYING to hear how it went!!! She came bursting through the door in a great mood. She had read perfectly at the assembly! She was very proud of herself and Kevin and I were SO proud of her! So, I told her to change and then we went to Dairy Queen for a blizzard.
I can't believe how well Charlotte is doing at reading. Her reading ability has grown exponentially! She is amazing. As I mentioned in a previous post, Charlotte was chosen for "Project Eagle." Project Eagle is a group of kids that are identified as having a very accelerated reading ability. They are taken out of class 4 times a week and they meet with a reading specialist who helps foster their need for a more challenging reading curriculum. There are 50 kindergarteners and she is one of 5 that were chosen for Project Eagle. We are just so proud of her!!!
Here is Charlotte enjoying her hard earned Peanut Butter Cup Blizzard!!!
