Why I Miss My Kindergartner

I thought once I moved out and lived on my own, the lectures from my dad would stop...but when you are a huge blog slacker, they come back with a vengeance.  So, here is a blog post I have literally been working on for weeks.  I really thought I would have more time to do things once Nathan was in school.  Ugh...I was sadly misguided.  So...without further ado..."Why I miss my kindergartner"

I miss Charlotte....I miss her like crazy.  I know, sounds sweet right?  Aw, Mommy misses her girl.  It's not what you think.  Now that Charlotte is gone everyday from 7:30-2:15, I have come to a shocking revelation.  She entertained Nate more than I ever gave her credit for.  She was like hired help, but free...and highly skilled.  When she is at school...Nathan drives me to the brink of INSANITY!!!!!  I'm serious.  I am sure Kevin comes home and thinks, "What in God's name did that boy do today?"  And what's interesting is...he goes to school every day as well!  He is gone from 8:30-10:50 every day!  But when he is home...OMG.

I was so spoiled with Charlotte.  Charlotte entertains herself.  She watches shows, she colors, she has tea parties.  She has an imagination...and I don't need to entertain her every minute of every day.  Which, allows me to do the 1400 things that need to be done around here on a daily basis.  You know, those crazy selfish things like cooking, cleaning, laundry, basically...running this household!  Nathan needs to be constantly entertained.  He is whiney and bored...and hanging on me non stop.

You know what they say, you don't know what you've got 'til it's gone.  I was under the impression that, once Nathan started school every day, I would be a free woman!  I would have so much time on my hands, I could finally do all of the projects that have been on the back burner.  It would be glorious. Yeah, not so much.  Nate is only gone from 8:30 to 10:50.  Guess what's open at 8:30 am?  Home Depot and Jewel...and Meijer if I want to drive to Bolingbrook.  Then, mercifully, Target opens at 9.  But most everything else opens at 10.  I have to be on my way to his school at 10:40.  Not really the time I was hoping for to run solo errands.

Add in the fact that I am a huge sucker who doesn't know how to say no...so, I am BOTH kid's room mothers this year.  And, I'm in charge of Nathan's memory book for his class.  Nate's birthday is in a month and I just ordered invites.  I have only a few things planned for that party...which is very unlike me.  I am usually months ahead on that.  Plus, when I signed on to be Charlotte's room mom, I was under the impression that it was just "party stuff."  Little did I know I was also in charge of the "Auction Item" for their class...which is in November.  And, it has to be an item that all the kids have had a part in.  So, I am refinishing a table I found at Goodwill and adding a ceramic tile top (well, I have enlisted my brother in law to help me lay the tile).  Each child in her class will make a ceramic tile.  Which means I have to go to her school a few times to assist the children decorate the tiles.  Because, they have to use permanent markers.

For someone who has almost 3 kid free hours a day, I feel like I have less time than ever.  I am rushed and overwhelmed.  So, I really apologize that I haven't been updating the blog.  It isn't for lack of material.  I just can't find the time!!!

So, now that I have all of that off my chest...here's a crap ton of pictures for your enjoyment!!!!

More Randomness

Once again, I am being a bad blogger.  Hey, this is what happens when I go to bed at 9pm now!  My prime blogging time used to be around midnight!  I'll have to get used to morning blogging!  Regardless, here are a few pics from the last week or so!

Norman, our elf on the shelf, sent the kids a post card!  He is on vacation at the beach getting ready for the busy holiday season.  He wanted Charlotte to know that everyone at the North Pole was proud of her for being so good at school!
Risky Business?  This is what happened when I told Charlotte to take her jumper off after school so I could wash it...what a character!
Charlotte loves garlic bread!!
Well, I held out for 5.5 years....but I finally let the kids in on a little secret...Grandma and Grandpa live next to a PARK!  It's set back from the street and so the kids never really saw the park from the house.  So, Grandma and I walked the kids over to the park and played for a little bit.  I just didn't want to have to go to the park every time we went over there, so we'll see!
The kids found tennis balls left on the tennis courts
"Bowling" using their tennis balls
We went on a nature walk on the way home...we found acorns, leaves, pinecones..
Collecting acorns in her hat
Charlotte came home with ANOTHER purple crown yesterday!  It's her third one!  Her teacher said she is running out of crowns!  Charlotte is starting a little crown collection in her room!
And...this is what Nathan thinks of Charlotte's crown for "being on purple."

What Have We Been Up To??

I have always thought to myself...I take thousands of pictures of my kids...seriously.  You know how when a kid goes missing and the police ask, "Do you have a recent photo?" I could probably say, "Yes, I actually have one from this morning wearing the outfit she/he went missing in.."  It's just the way of the iPhone.  So, here's some random pics of things that went on the last week or so!

Charlotte wearing her Harvard shirt from Aunt Marianne...our cousin Sara is a sophomore there.  It says "Future Harvard Freshman"  Maybe!!!
Here is Charlotte, furious with me that I asked her to wear her uniform shorts...it was like 97 degrees that day.  I'm such a horrible mom.
 She got over it.
Our Concord grape vine in the back yard...we have THOUSANDS of grapes...so what do you do with all of those grapes...
You make jam....lots and lots of jam.  Here is the first batch.  The second batch I put in cute jelly jars.
It's Jelly...
Then, I decided this canning stuff wasn't so bad, so I decided to make pickles with all of my cucumbers.  They could totally suck, but the cucumbers were going to go bad if I didn't do something with them..I mean, there's not a lot of recipes that call for cucumbers.
A pregnant woman's dream...
Daddy's pizza helpers
Rolling out the dough
 Cuteness
Charlotte covered her face with stickers and (with a british accent) pretended she was an old lady...complete with cane.
She also made Nate an outfit with a shirt, pants, hat and beard!
Charlotte got called to the principals office last week....turns out she was the first Kindergartner this year to get the "outstanding behavior award" by reaching "purple" on the behavior chart.  She got to go show the Principal...Sister Carolyn, her crown.  They made a big deal about it and paraded her around. I was SO proud of her!
Nate holding a CVS receipt for ONE prescription...it's as tall as him!!
College football opening Saturday had Iowa vs. NIU (my alma mater vs. Kevin's) Charlotte stuck with me and cheered for the Hawkeyes...but NIU beat us in the end.  Oh well!!
I had these cookies made for my dad's birthday party this weekend.  I told the lady, "He's a dentist who loves the Red Sox...have fun!" This is what she came back with.  I thought they were AMAZING!
The birthday boy with his cookies!
