Nate's doctor's appointment with the pediatric orthopedic specialist went really well yesterday. The doctor was very nice and very reassuring. He does have tibial torsion. He has a 25% rotation in each leg. This actually good news, because if one leg was worse than the other there would be problems healing. She feels that he should grow out of it in a year or so. If he's not looking better in a year, we will go back. She asked me when he started walking and I said, "At 10 months" and she replied, "Yep...I see this in a lot of my early walkers, it's very common." In the past, they used to make kids wear braces and bars and all sorts of stuff. But, they have come to find out that doing all of this doesn't change things any faster than doing nothing. He may continue to be clumsy until his legs right themselves. She actually said that in the long run, kids who have had this problem tend to be faster and better athletes for some reason! So, that little piece of knowledge, coupled with the fact that he has been showing favoritism to his left hand has Kevin in a complete tizzy. He's all but searching online for private pitching coaches in the hopes that he has a little left-handed, base-stealing, future pitching star on his hands. He thinks that being a southpaw is the best gig in MLB. You go in and pitch for a few batters, you come out...your arm lasts forever because you aren't pitching full games...so you can have a long career. And...you still have to make the League minimum, which is ridiculous!
Charlotte is continuing to love her class. She has a little friend in the class, Jocelyn. They remind me of me and my childhood best friend, Heather. Charlotte is the loud, talkative, boisterous one and Jocelyn is quiet and reserved. Can you guess which one I was? She loves coming home each day with a picture or a drawing to show her dad. She likes to hang them all over the walls with blue painters tape. She brought everyone in her class little Valentine's Day treats....she was definitely the popular one today :)
